How do I stop AI formulas from re-running?

Select the finished cells and use Lock selection. Locked answers stay fixed when the sheet changes, refreshes, or re-opens. You can unlock them later. Lock replaces the old Save Formula Output menu item.

How Lock works

  • Finished AI answers in your selection become plain values. They do not recalculate or use credits.
  • The original formula is kept in the cell note after đź”’, so Unlock can bring it back.
  • Cells that are still loading or show an error are skipped.

How do I lock AI results?

  1. Wait until the answers look correct.
  2. Select the cells, rows, or columns you want to keep.
  3. Go to Extensions → AI for Sheets → Lock selection.
  4. A message shows how many cells were locked and how many were skipped.

How do I unlock cells?

Select the locked cells and go to Extensions → AI for Sheets → Unlock selection. The formulas come back from the 🔒 notes and can recalculate again.

How do I rerun cells that show errors?

Go to Extensions → AI for Sheets → Rerun error cells, or click Rerun errors in the Use AI Formulas sidebar. Only AI cells on the current sheet that show Error: or #ERROR! run again. Other answers stay as they are.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I undo a lock?

Yes. Select the locked cells and use Unlock selection. Pressing Undo right away also works.

Does locking make extra AI calls?

No. It keeps the answers already in your cells.

What if I delete the cell note?

Unlock reads the formula from the line that starts with đź”’. If you delete that line, the cell stays a plain value.
